Audition
Guidelines
All
programs require an audition, yet the type of audition varies
by program. DVD auditions are encouraged and receive as much consideration
as in-person auditions.Ask Pillow staff about audition and application
procedures: 413.243.9919 or info@jacobspillow.org.
I. DVD Audition
Submit an American NTSC or European PAL formatted DVD for each
program to
which you are applying. Recordings, at least 20 minutes in length,
must be of clear quality. Label DVD and its case with your name,
program choice, and date recorded. Enclose a Table of Contents
with descriptions, listing choreographer(s) for work(s) shown,
as applicable. Make DVD content relevant to the program to which
you are applying.
A.
Choreographers Lab – present examples of work
created in the past two years; preferably one to three full-length
work(s) with accompanying programs and artist notes.

Theatre Dance – DVD should be shot no more than six
months prior to submission and should be organized as follows:
1) Brief verbal self-introduction (ALL four programs);
2) Technique sampler (ALL, though Ballet, Contemporary, and
Jazz/Musical Theatre Dance must include center floor exercises
of grand pliés, ronde de jambes, extensions, and balances;
and across-the-floor progressions of turns, jumps, and leaps).
3) One or two solo dance combinations, repertory excerpts,
or improvisations, demonstrating a range of dynamics, levels,
tempos, and styles (ALL four programs).
4) Ballet dancers: include adagio, pirouettes, petit and grand
allegro, and at least one full variation. Pointe shoes are
required for females.

for a range of combinations and styles. Professional dance attire
required. Arrive one hour prior to the audition for registration
and warm-up. (Parents, teachers, and friends are not permitted
to observe.) If a nearby audition for the program you are interested
in attending is not listed on the opposite page, phone 413.243.9919,
x17 to inquire if a special appointment with the Director of Education
is possible. Jazz/Musical Theatre Dance Auditions include dance,
tap, and voice. Prepare two songs from published musical theatre
