Sculpting
Movement and Time: Making Slow Dancing
Blake's
Barn
Open
Tues-Sun, noon through final curtain
David
Michalek captures the essence of dance on film in a series of
larger-than-life hyper-slow-motion video portraits of dancers
from around the world, seen at Lincoln Center last summer. Complementing
this season's theatrical presentation of Slow Dancing
in the Doris Duke Studio Theatre, this exhibition takes the viewer
behind the scenes to learn more about Michalek's inspiration and
the work process with his diverse group of subjects.

The
Pillow's 2008 season poster and brochure cover depict a member
of Trey McIntyre's company in a photo by former dancer Jonas Lundqvist,
now a prominent photographer in Finland. It is startlingly reminiscent
of outdoor shots captured by Pillow photographer John Lindquist
decades ago. The coincidental similarity of their names is one
more reason to see Lundqvist and Lindquist side by side.

The
vast resources of the Jacob's Pillow Archives are often characterized
as priceless, but the historic images seen in this particular
display do, in fact, have prices — and quite reasonable ones.
Favorite photographs of pioneers such as Ruth St. Denis, Ted Shawn,
and Joseph Pilates, and iconic shots of the Pillow itself are
now available for purchase, with a special few on view here.
40s
Photos: A Hans Knopf Time Capsule
Blake's
Barn
Open
Tues-Sun, noon through final curtain
Some
of the leading dance figures of the 1940s are seen here in long-forgotten
images printed from Hans Knopf's original negatives, showing American
dance in its infancy. These extraordinary new prints feature Martha
Graham, George Balanchine, Merce Cunningham, and many American
Ballet Theatre stars of yesteryear in their prime.

Dance
history continues to be made here each summer, and many striking
images have been captured in recent years by resident photographers
Mike van Sleen and Christopher Duggan, among others. Collected
here are some of the most memorable photos of artists from the
not-so-distant past, instantly recognizable to regular Pillow-goers.
